What happens next
| When | What we do |
|---|---|
| Promptly | We acknowledge your complaint and tell you who is dealing with it. Many complaints are resolved at this stage. |
| Within 4 weeks | If we have not resolved it, we write to you with either a final response or an explanation of why we are not yet in a position to give one. |
| Within 8 weeks | We send a final response setting out our decision and the reasons for it, or explain why we still cannot and tell you when we expect to. |
If you are not satisfied
If you are unhappy with our final response, or we have not given you one within eight weeks, you may be able to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. The service is free to consumers and eligible small businesses.
Financial Ombudsman Service, Exchange Tower, London E14 9SR. Telephone 0800 023 4567. Website financial-ombudsman.org.uk.
You normally need to refer a complaint to the Ombudsman within six months of our final response.
Eligibility depends on whether the business you are complaining about was a regulated activity. Unregulated bridging, commercial and most buy-to-let lending fall outside the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction. We will tell you in our final response which category your case falls into and whether you can refer it.
Our commitment
We treat complaints as information rather than as an inconvenience. Every complaint is reviewed by someone not directly involved in the matter, and where we have got something wrong we will say so and put it right.
